Earth Day: My Journey Since Last Year

Yesterday was Earth Day. When I think of Earth Day last year, I realize that it has been a journey of growth for me.

A year ago, I began to make a more concerted effort to learn more about the impact my footprint makes on our planet. I don’t know what triggered me to wake up, but I think collaborating with and learning about CannedGood soap last May had something to do with it. Check out the blog post I wrote about them last May. They are impressive!

I’m still learning about plastic pollution, climate change, and the importance of protecting our land, air and water. I’m not an expert on the subject, but I have been making little changes here and there, where possible. Is it easy? I’ll admit that changing my life to be more environmentally conscious can be a bit challenging. But, I focus on what I can do right now. That helps me to keep moving, so that I can be part of moving the needle.

I’ve learned and am still learning how upcycling, recycling and composting can save our planet. I’m learning and figuring out how I can best contribute to those efforts—what I can adapt to my daily life, products I can afford or are easily available is a big factor. I know that doing a little bit is better than nothing.

Earth Day is important to me because my son learns from my actions. If I value the planet and do something about it, there is a great chance that he will also follow along.

Hi there! I am a Chicago suburban mom of one happy and friendly two-year old and wife of five years. I am always looking for fun things for us to do and see, delicious eats (cooked at home or at restaurants), experiences and fun ways to spend time together as a family. I try to make home life fun. I love life, my little family, traveling and exploring Chicago.
