Compostable Diapers: A Win for The Planet and My Son

As parents, compostable diapers deserve some consideration, as their use can positively impact the world our children will inherit. A child will use around 7,000 diapers in their lifetime. That does not include the diapers or training pants that are used when being potty trained! What is also eye-opening is that conventional single-use diapers are not compostable. When something is compostable it means it is made from nature and, therefore, is able to break down naturally and turn back into soil. As such, disposable diapers account for approximately 2% of our country’s landfill waste.

My three-year old son tried Nest Diapers training pants back in December. I received a case of training pants from Nest Diapers to give them a try and I was impressed. Nest Diapers developed a line of diapers and training pants that are truly compostable. They are made of plant-based, renewable materials that protect your baby’s or toddler’s delicate skin, while greatly reducing its impact on the environment.

At first touch, I noticed right away that Nest Diapers training pants were a whole lot softer than the other brands I have used. The training pants have a wetness indicator strip, just like the other well-known brands, and very soft, flexible sides that tear off for easy changing.

The training pants felt very soft to me, but the true test was my son. Like other toddlers his age, right now my son is not a fan of diaper changes. But when I put them on for the first time I could not believe that he immediately said, “I love them.” He then said that they are “so soft.” This is coming from a toddler who has to be wrangled to get his diaper changed! My son has never made a comment about his diaper so this is a huge compliment. Nest Diapers are not only compostable and good for our planet, but also a win with my son!
